It’s not every day that we get to see an award show dedicated specifically to UG Hip-Hop, except on occasions like today seeing as the good folk at the, one of Uganda’s top Hip-Hop blogs have announced that they will be putting together an event like this later on this year.

In their own words:

“The producers of the UG Hip-Hop Awards are pleased to announce the first ever awards ceremony celebrating and recognizing Uganda’s Hip-Hop excellence. The UG Hip-Hop awards are created with a purpose of honoring the acts, individuals and brands that contribute to the enrichment of the genre through the different elements of Hip-Hop.

The UG Hip-Hop awards will be an annual ceremony with the first occasion slated to take place on 2nd December 2016. The awards have 22 key categories and the various stakeholders are encouraged to visit The Tribe UG website ( ) to make submissions of their work for consideration.

The submission will run from 16th August 2016 and close on 15th September 2016. Artists are encouraged to submit works released between 1st January 2015 and 30th June 2016. The successful top 5 nominees will be announced on 1st October 2016 via The Tribe UG website.

Voting by the public will start on 2nd October 2016 and close on 20th November 2016. All categories will be open for entry and voting to the public except the “Life time achievement” award and the “Hustler of the year” award.”

  • Female artist of the year
  • Inspiration song of the year
  • Rookie of the year
  • Collaboration of the year
  • Producer of the year
  • Diaspora Artist of the year
  • Eastern Uganda artist of the year
  • Northern Uganda artist of the year
  • Western Uganda artist of the year
  • Central Uganda artist of the year
  • Lyricist of the year
  • Hustler of the year
  • Rap Fusion of the year
  • Hip-Hop Deejay of the year
  • Mixtape of the year
  • Hip-Hop media personality of the year
  • Lifetime achievement award
  • Sweet 16
