J-Wats is one of the new kids on the Hip-Hop scene with a little Dancehall flavor in him and he is definitely putting in as much work as a newcomer should be. With 2 of his singles, “Fancy” and “Brand New” already pushing his name, he has continued working to keep the listeners busy.
He dropped another single called “Club ErrDay” that features Rey Macc but don’t let the title mislead you. Yes, “Club Errday” sounds more like a party track thanks to the trap elements in the song but a closer look at the lyrics reveals hints at the hustle that comes before the club and the work that goes into trying to get better as an artist.
“We down for whatever, tukuba hustle okuva misana mpaka kyiro I said, we chasing the paper…” and so goes the rest of the chorus. J-Wats delivers in both English and Luganda as Rey Macc sings through a verse, not forgetting that these two handled the production of this song at Muddy Boots Studio/Trend Setters UG coupled with some help from Lawraid Vybz on the vocal production.
J-Wats’ “Club Errday” video in detail.
The video for this single is out now and it does qualify as a visually appealing one. Shot and directed by Woko Derrick for Toltape Films with additional help from O.J. Ronald, the majority of it is set in what looks like an abandoned house with a mad party going on there.
The directors make great use pyrotechnics like smoke, and also some “cool tricks” like the Time Freeze effect (the one where all the people in the scene look like they’ve been put on pause except for one person) which I doubt I had seen in a Ugandan music video before this one.
There are also a lot of other amazing shots in the video that utilize a more artistic touch like the over-head spotlight in a dark room with a dancer doing all sorts of stunts in monochrome. There’s definitely a great deal to see in this video so check it out and share it.
