Keko has some new music on the way and it is dropping sooner than you thought. A while ago, she made it known that she intended to retire from music and that her forthcoming mixtape “Love from Venus” would be her last project.
Throughout her career, she has managed to remain one of the best if not the best female rapper in Uganda. In spite not having an album out, she still went on to release a good number of solid singles and even got to win some continental awards for singles like “This is how we do it”.
Keko’s journey to the mixtape.
Around late 2014, she released a mixtape called “P.A.R.A.N.O.I.D.” that spawned a number of successful songs including “Mutima”, “Jala Kumbaye” and “Zungulube”. After a lengthy break from releasing music, she came back with “Fly Solo” and more recently, “Ready”.
If the P.A.R.A.N.O.I.D. mixtape and her track record with the singles are anything to go by, then “Love from Venus” is definitely going to be great project. The official listening party for the mixtape will be taking place at Gatto Matto on the 2nd of June starting at 7PM.
Entrance fee will be UGX 20,000 and the event will feature a number of other acts including Navio, Sylvester, 4GB, Ruyonga and The Mith. The DJ lineup will have GXL, Alur, Naselow, Crisio and Keko Town (yes, I’m also hoping that last bit means that she’ll be DJing too, I’d love to see that).
Keko seems to be focusing more on other projects to do with health and youth empowerment, including participating in the ongoing #LifeInMyShoes health camp and speaking in various schools on many occasions such as Women’s Day.
Any talk about music from her after this mixtape is mere speculation so make it a point to come through and support one of Uganda’s best exports in music in the last decade. The mixtape will be available two weeks after the party.
