Listen to Liz Lubega’s The Process EP.
Somewhere in London, there’s a burgeoning artist with roots in Uganda that goes by the name Elizabeth Lubega, or more commonly, Liz Lubega. Liz is a singer and songwriter whose musical style is largely R&B and Soul. Having started singing as far back as the age of 16 in choirs, she spent the earlier parts of her career assisting with writing, backup vocals and arrangement on other artists’ projects.
She featured on the album titled “The Narrow Road” by the MOBO Award-winning artist, Guvna B and also received much acclaim for covering Emeli Sande’s “Breaking The Law”, with Emeli describing her vocal performance as “beautiful velvet sounds”.
Liz Lubega on The Process.
Liz recently released a 4-track EP titled “The Process”. The EP explores themes that include love, spirituality and women empowerment. The sound on this EP is much broader, with some of her performances and the instrumentation bearing having more dynamic delivery.
My personal favorites on this project are “Can’t Stop Me Now” and “Hear Me”. “Can’t Stop Me Now” is more of an inspirational song on which she talks about harder times and staying motivated to move forward. On “Hear Me”, Liz talks more about her desire to voice her opinion as an individual and how people should pay more attention.
One other thing that made me really like this EP is the fact that much as there are drum tracks on a number of the songs, they feel less prominent. The other instruments such as the keys and guitar draw more attention and contribute a lot to making the songs sound good, something that isn’t easy to pull off.
The EP has two other songs, “Is This Love” and “Let Your Love” that highlight her writing skills. Go check it out, share it and let us know what you think.
