Ono – Martha Smallz
Martha Smallz Interview
Martha Smallz has definitely ramped things up, releasing a new single less than three months after her last one “Can We”. She came through for the show last weekend and premiered her new single titled “Ono” which is Luganda for “this one”.
Produced by The Samurae for Talent Africa, the song emulates the live feel especially with his choice of the kick drums and percussion while integrating some other electronically synthesized soundscapes. On “Ono”, Martha sings about her love for her partner and how it manifests in her thoughts and actions.
Unlike “Can We” where Martha reminisces about a former lover and expresses her desire to relive their moments together in a manner that borders on somber, “Ono” sounds more like a joyful confession with a bit of pride.
And just like the title, she also goes ahead to sing a good chunk of the song in Luganda, something that isn’t common in her music, excluding her performance on Foever’s “Antegedde”, and she does so with finesse.
Martha Smallz told us that her recent increase in the rate at which she’s putting out music is partly due to her recent experiences that have helped her evolve substantially as an artist and end up in a position to make and release music more consistently.
She also told us that she plans on releasing some more singles to get her name out there and probably release an E.P. around the beginning of next year along with invitations to listen and see her perform.
Martha also happens to be our artist of the month for August and under this new effort, we shall bring you a piece about her each week of this month. Make sure you look out for a piece on 5 things you didn’t know about Martha Smallz next week.
