Empologoma – Sylvester ft. Utie
Sylvester Kabombo, one half of the veteran Lugaflow duo Sylvester and Abramz has been on quite the winning streak. After putting out his highly acclaimed debut solo album “Ziva Muntuuyo” over a year ago, he has continued working on a number of music-related projects like the Hiphop Boot Camp under Youth & Hiphop Uganda.
He has also entered the merchandise game starting out with clothing and he is doing quite well at it. He paid us a visit last weekend to premiere his new single titled “Empologoma” that features Utie.
Sylvester on “Empologoma”.
“Empologoma” is a slow and smooth Hiphop song with production handled by Simon Elly plus some extra work by Skinny from Infinite Records.
“Empologoma”, which is Luganda for a lion is a narration of the recent hard times Sylvester has been through in a metaphoric manner. With the lion standing for poverty, he sings “Empologoma eyagala kundya, obwaavu mpologoma”, meaning that poverty is like a lion and this lion in particular wants to eat him.
During the interview, he told us how he wrote this song during a time when he was having business troubles, his stock having been confiscated due to the shop owner defaulting on the rent which forced him to pay for a shop for over a month without stock just to hold the space and be able to keep his business afloat.
He also talked to us about the challenges of staying relevant as an artist even when you’re making pre-dominantly conscious songs that rarely go on to become radio hits. He told us that the community projects he is involved in play a great role in keeping his name out there since what he teaches has a lasting impression on his students and creates a legacy.
Sylvester said he hopes to work on an album this year and that regardless of whether it is released or not, we shall receive a lot of music from him this year. Check out the song and share it with a friend.
